SYNOPSIS

Dragoons plunges into the images that shaped the political myth of Jair Bolsonaro, from his early YouTube videos to the end of his presidency. Across sleepless nights, a narrator drifts through Bolsonaro’s stream of live videos, selfies, and speeches, searching for the logic of a power forged in and through images. By setting this visual regime against Brazil’s official iconography, the film examines how power is staged, repeated, and takes shape in images in an age when politics increasingly unfolds on screen.

DIRECTOR'S BIOGRAPHY

Miguel Antunes Ramos is a filmmaker. Over the past fifteen years, he has directed several short and feature-length films that have screened at festivals in Brazil and abroad, including the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival, the Málaga Film Festival, the Tiradentes Film Festival, and It’s All True – International Documentary Film Festival. His short films include um, dois, três, vulcão (2012), Salomão (2013), E (2014), A Era de Ouro (2014), O Castelo (2015), Comissão de Vendas (2016), and barulho feio (2016). He has also directed the feature films Banco Imobiliário (2016), Filhos de Macunaíma (2019), A flecha e a farda (2020), and A voz de Deus (2025).

His work explores the transformation of urban spaces, disputes over the city’s territories, and Brazil’s violent history and the ways in which it continues to reverberate in the present. His latest documentary, Dragoons (2026), will have its international premiere at Doclisboa and its Brazilian premiere in the Première Brasil competition at the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival.
